Re: ADALITA JULY SOLO SHOWS

Went to the show at the Vanguard last night & it was a blast... It's a tremendous venue and perfect for what Adalita is playing.

Seeing Adalita just standing up there belting it out and thrashing away on a guitar... Great stuff.... I don't know why but it reminded me of watching Billy Bragg 20 years ago smashing out songs with no band(obviously Adalita is a much better looking & vocaly in tune version). And it's interesting to see Adalita moving away from the mold of Magicdirt & doing her own thing.

Anyway thanks for a good night young lady.
Kudos to you.

Re: ADALITA JULY SOLO SHOWS

Hi all fellow dirtbags, it's been a while since I wrote here.... thought I'd do a gig review for the three NSW solo shows I went to... they've all been great. I'll start off with the setlist to the best of my memory

Brass Monkey 28-07-10
Sarah May
Full Of Rope
Repairer
Invite Me
The Influence
Going Down
Perfection
Jewel Thief
Gap
Hot Hair

Heritage Hotel 29-07-10
Hot Air
Repairer
The Influence
Jane On A Island
Good Girl
I Want Your Love
Invite Me
Perfection
Gap
Jewel Thief

Vanguard 30-07-10
Hot Air
Repairer
The Influence
Gap
Good Girl
I Want Your Love
Going Down
Perfection
Invite Me
Jewel Thief

I know I've got the songs right for each night but not 100% sure about the order
but who gives a !@#$, for those who've been to her solo shows know that it's very different to Magic Dirt. Very calm and relaxing atmosphere, they're all seated venues where people can dine in. It's so quiet you can almost hear everything around the room, I hear bottles being opened at the bar, people talking on mobile phones (tsk tsk) and even sometimes Adalita strumming the actual strings. I was most surprised to hear Sarah May and The Influence, they're some of my favourite dirt songs. I prefer the solo versions more at the moment, I've posted up two songs onto youtube so far and that'll be it. the rest will be for you to wait til the album comes out. As I said most of these songs are all slow rock ballads... apart from Jewel Thief which is kinda rocky and Going Down reminds me a bit of Vulcanella. I Want Your Love sounds like a cover song of someone but it's not, totally original and I believe she played it for the first time live in Bulli. Perfection sounds like a sad song, but at the same time so beautiful it's definitely a top favourite of mine. The chorus of Invite Me and Repairer are kinda catchy they're stuck in my head time to time. These solo songs really show what a great voice she has and how well she uses it I get blown away all the time which is why it seems like I'm stalking her. It also proves what a talented guitarist she is it's inspired me to finally pick up a guitar for the first time in my life and give it a go. I suck for now but hopefully I'll get the hang of the basics eventually. I miss Magic Dirt heaps but glad Adalita is still out there touring and updating me with what's going on behind the scenes of the Dirt, a lot of good things to come in the following years I can't wait.

Great review Devil. Agree with you 100%. She is fantastic.
P.S. My family thinks I'm a stalker too. Bit embarassing.

I'm always struck by the conviction with which Adalita showcases her wares.

The songs are sounding better and fuller every time I hear them. Can't wait for this album to finally get born.

Thanks Devil for posting those songs. I'll just have to pray that a small-venue Brisbane show eventuates at some point.

Well done on picking up the guitar too. I've been playing a few years and I still suck! If you want to play any MD, have a look at Crushes,These Drugs, and He-Man. Nice & crunchy and not too fast.
