Re: thank-you to the band

What a priviledge it was to be a part of Magic Dirt's show at the Corner on Wednesday night. It would have to be one of the most memorable gigs I've been to by any band, both a tribute to a beautiful bass player and a celebration of Magic Dirt's awesome music. During the gig, so many memories of previous MD shows came back to me, all the way back to when I first saw them at an all ages show at the Corner in 1995. My friends and I would catch a train from outer suburbia on a regular basis to see the all -ages shows quite often. Since then I have seen MD over 20 times, at the Tote, the Corner, the Continental, Hifi Bar, Prahran Town Hall, celebrating NYE at the Punters Club, and at any music fesival I was at where they were playing. I remember at the BDO in 1996 and scaling two fences on a 40 degree day to beat the crowds to see MD on the RRR 'dustbowl' stage, and it was worth it. I recall Adalita dedicating a song to 'all of you who are in bands or starting bands out there,' which in turn inspired me to eventually get my own band together. I even had my own Magic Dirt video, on which I would tape clips from Rage and interviews and performances from Recovery.
So when I heard of the gig at the Corner on Wednesday, this felt like the one I could not miss. Ever since I learned of Dean's passing I have felt really bummed and I felt like I had lost a friend. But after the gig I felt the sadness pass and instead I am grateful for the music that is here. Thank you Magic Dirt for providing part of the soundtrack to so many of my memories, I am truly grateful. xx

p.s. If anyone has any other MD memories, please feel free to post them here too emoticon
