mix tape.

hey.

long time reader, first time poster on the pink board.

the first time i saw magic dirt. I was in my teens, incredibly awkward, and generally a bit of a mess.

i snuck up the front.
and ended up in front of Dean.
he became my favourite

maybe it was because he was left handed like i was.
maybe it was because he had a cool shirt. (Dean always had cool tshirts. i know that probably makes me sound shallow, but he did)
maybe it was because i was a teenager and he was within touching distance....
he became my favourite.

i’m 28 now.
but anytime i spoke to dean
i think a little bit of me was still a teenage girl.
i’d give him cds of remixes he couldn’t find and bootlegs of bands i knew he liked, etc.

since august i've wanted to say something.
but i didn't really know what.
i wanted to do something.
but i didn't really know what.

and since i'm still an awkward teenage girl at heart.
i thought it might be nice
if we all made a mix tape
combined forces?

songs that make you think of Dean & magic dirt...
song you talked to them about...
songs you thought he might like...
bands you know dirt fans would love?

to start the ball rolling....

kevin shields remix of curve’s coming up roses

http://rapidshare.com/files/295851105/curve_-_coming_up_roses__kevin_shields_remix_.mp3.html

(rapid share... ten downloads)

It was the first song that i knew i had. that Dean couldn't find.

Thanks for everything magic dirt.
Lots of love
emma sara

emma, i think that's a beautiful idea.

nice start.....i remember you talking to dean about mbv at just about every gig i went to with you! emoticon

i'll start with Babycakes.

everyone here should have it already. but it was dean's favourite. and mine for that matter. and you can't buy young and full of the devil anywhere aside from ebay these days. which is a crime, quite frankly. and it was dean's favourite album.

play it loud. even if you already have it. which you should.

Babycakes

(as a side note, i was thinking about uploading the entire au-go-go back catalouge somewhere.....i remember dean saying on here a while back 'share it! burn it! we don't make money from it!'.....and it makes me sad that you can't buy it anywhere anymore.....which means it's not there for new fans to discover. and it !@#$ well should be.)

Midget - Breeding Ground

Magic Dirt and Midget have been mates for a good time now as i am sure most of you all know. The Midget boys even came up with the CD name 'Young and full of the devil'. I saw Midget play not long after Dean's passing and watching Keith play bass made me get a tear in my eye, he has such an awesome bass style as did Dean.
Midget were also the first 'real' band i ever saw.

Duel,by Swervedriver.
In an interview with Dean I listened to once,he said that one band that really impacted Magic Dirt was Swervedriver. So I look through dads CD's,and sure enough, there's a bucketload of swervedriver.
Duel just happened to be the first one I listened to,and I instantly thought 'I can hear magic dirt in this'.
Later on dad walked past and heard me listening to Swervedriver, and I explained to him what Dean had said.He said to me 'I sold Dean his first swervedriver album down at chaos records'.
I thought that was pretty cool.
